DAY 1
The launch chapter — the day Viking Voyage II left Greenland and became a real voyage.
CAPTAIN'S LOG · DAY 1
THE JOURNEY BEGINS.
The gangway was gone. Greenland was behind the stern. Viking Voyage II had begun.
The first launch-day reading recorded 22 Vikings and 255,658 steps. Later that same day, the crew had grown to 29 and the fleet had reached 733,419 steps — approximately 476.7 kilometres. That later launch-day reading is preserved here as the Day 1 total.
29 VIKINGS.
ONE CREW. ONE SHIP.
FLORIDA AWAITS.

WHERE OUR SAGA STARTED
Day 1 is preserved as the opening page of the voyage rather than rewritten through the eyes of later days. The two recovered launch-day readings remain part of the record: the first at 22 Vikings and 255,658 steps, and the later reading at 29 Vikings and 733,419 steps.
